India's First Auto Gear Car -- Maruti Suzuki 'Celerio'

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is 3.6-metres long (2.4 metre wheelbase), 1.6-metres wide and 1.5-metres high, making it larger than the outgoing vehicle. Its overall design retains all the familiar elements of the small Suzuki hatchback language but is a completely new car.The fasica gets the new Suzuki grille and will most likely be offered with projectors on the higher spec variants in Europe.

It is available in four manual and two automatic variants with both gearboxes mated to a 1.0-litre K10B engine that produces 67bhp and 90Nm torque. The manual is a five-speed unit while the AT is an AMT unit which is a first in segment and is expected to become a standard feature among competitors.

Inside, the top-spec Celerio gets beige and black upholstery, Bluetooth enabled music system and electric OVRMs. On the safety front optional features include ABS and dual front airbags. However, we expect the dealers will offer many company approved accessories for the Celerio. Maruti Suzuki Celerio competes with the Hyundai Santrro Xing and the Chevrolet Beat.

Electromagnetic Torch Light

An electromagnetic flashlight with transparent barrel lets you see how a moving magnet within a coil of wire will induce a current.

The moving magnetic field line (flux pattern) cuts through the wires causing electromagnetic induction. If you look inside the clear case as you shake, you will see the powerful magnet pass back and forth through a loop of wire.

In the scientific demo model pictured on the right:

The electrical energy produced is stored in a capacitor that can be charged hundreds of thousands of times.
The bulb is an energy efficient ultra-bright white LED. 30 seconds of shaking provides a full charge, and will produce a beam  of light for several minutes.

WORKING:-

For this to work practically you need a powerful permanent magnet - such as one made of neodymium. One of these magnets will be small but have a very dense array of flux lines (strong magnetic field) around it.

The permanent magnet is inside a plastic track which allows it to slide up and down. When you shake the flashlight, the permanent magnet passes through the copper coil repeatedly.

NOTE-
The problem with this type of magnet is that the flashlight will have a strong magnetic field - and may well interfere with analogue watches or cards with magnetic strips of info on them! You therefore should not store such a flashlight in your handbag near your credit cards!

Manufacturers have made flashlight torches like this that use the electrical energy produced to charge up a rechargable battery. In that way a bit of protracted shaking can store enough energy to produce a longer 'ligh up' time.

Charging through heartbeats

Will your next phone be powered by your HEARTBEAT? Scientists reveal implantable battery that can charge from the movement of our organs

HOW IT WORKS
The small strip converts the constant movement of organs such as the heart, lungs and diaphragm into energy.
The tiny piezoelectric power plants are comprised of lead zirconate titanate nanoribbons, housed in biocompatible plastic.
There's also an integrated rectifier that converts the electric signal and a tiny rechargeable battery, all encased in the same plastic.
To produce more power, multiple units could be placed on an organ, the team believe.

Samsung Galaxy Grand2 Released in India

Officially announced by Samsung at the end of November, the new Galaxy Grand 2 is now ready to be released - at least in India, where it’s been formally presented today.

The Grand 2 will be available to purchase in India starting the first week of January 2014 (that’s next week). Its retail price will be between $370 and $400 (22,999 INR - 24,999 INR).

Succeeding the original Galaxy Grand - launched around the world in the first half of this year - the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 brings improvements in all departments. It has a larger, 5.25-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels, HSPA+ connectivity, a newer quad-core 1.2GHz processor, and 1.5GB of RAM. Dual SIM capabilities are also included, and this should make the new Grand 2 quite popular in emerging markets. On the back of the handset you’ll find a faux leather texture (similar to what you’re getting with the Galaxy Note 3), as well as an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 comes in three color versions: black, white and pink. It’s launching with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board, but, rest assured, it will be updated to KitKat at some point.
